LANGUAGE ARTS EXPECTATIONS
The Tewksbury Board of Education, administration, and staff have spent the last several months improving the Language Arts curriculum. To support the success of these improvements we have increased instructional time and defined expectations for the instructional process. We have documented these expectations in the following three areas: “Teaching Writing as a Process,” “Literary Analysis,” and “Mechanics, Structure, Syntax, and Grammar.” Please take the time to become familiar with this document in order to better understand the changes that will take place in the classroom and to better support those efforts at home.
Please contact Board President John Santoro with your questions or feedback.

The Tewksbury Township School District values
the uniqueness of all students and will provide child-centered,
innovative learning experiences which will enable each student
to explore new areas and to develop self-esteem, academic
excellence, creativity, social awareness and an enthusiasm
for learning.
The schools aspire to foster skills in critical
thinking, problem solving, effective communication, and information
research. They encourage the development of personal management
and goal setting skills as well as the ability to work cooperatively
and develop skills in leadership, negotiation, collaboration,
and communication. They foster the desire and ability to express
oneself creatively and to appreciate the aesthetic expressions
of others, while at the same time, promoting personal excellence
in reading, writing, computation, social studies, fine and
performing arts, sciences, current events, health and physical
education, and technology. |

Tewksbury Township School District is a K-8
district, which operates two schools serving 752 students.
The original elementary school, Sawmill, opened in 1951.
The Sawmill School has subsequently been sold to the Hunterdon
ESC. Currently Tewksbury Elementary School houses our
K-4 students and the Old Turnpike School houses our 5-8 students.
The district employs a staff of 80 professionals,
including a superintendent, two building principals, child
study team, and highly qualified teachers. Since 1995,
our school enrollment has increased from 577 students to our
current population of 752. |
