Middle School Math Placement Grades 5-8

 

The process of math placement at the middle school level ensures each student experiences both success and challenge in mathematics.

Students are placed into Math Courses based on the following criteria: 

  1. Classroom Performance (Annual Summative Average)
  2. End of Year Final Assessment reflective of grade level content and skills
  3. Diagnostic Assessment reflective of upcoming content and skills
  4. NWEA MAP- Measures of Academic Progress Reading Assessment
  5. Teacher Recommendation based on student performance and demonstrated work habits
5th & 6th Grade Mathematics: curriculum and instruction is based on grade level Common Core Standards. At times, instruction is differentiated to meet the advanced or reteaching needs of varying groups of students within the class.

5th & 6th Grade Math Accelerated: curriculum and instruction for this class is primarily based on grade level Common Core Standards, as well as advanced instruction in specific math concepts.

7th Grade Mathematics: curriculum and instruction is based on grade level Common Core Standards. At times, instruction is differentiated to meet advanced or reteaching needs of varying groups of students within the class.

Pre-Algebra (7th): curriculum and instruction incorporates both grade level Common Core Standards, as well as an introduction to Algebra. 

Algebra I (8th): curriculum and instruction incorporates both grade level Common Core Standards, as well as a strong focus on mastery of advanced Algebraic Concepts.

8th Grade Math: curriculum and instruction is based on grade level Common Core Standards which includes Algebraic Concepts.
